OK My vote's in. In the upstate I think that Brushy Creek in Powdersville has everyone beat with a hamhock...
I'd drive to Lexington NC for some Lexington BBQ, you know they have their own Interstate off ramp?

3 miles out of union. I don't recall the place. what road? BTW, I drive about 1500 miles a week all over the upstate. Looking at my call sheet tomorrow I may be riding through Union on the way to York. I live in Greenwood.
If Oregon has GOOD BBQ, then I"m for the drive, just might not make it this weekend...
You must remember, I someone who woke up one Sunday morning and drove to Charleston for an Oyster Sandwich and back. (It was at the Banana Cabana) _________________ You can't hold a liberal responsible for their words because it's character assassination.

I did drive back from North Dakota in one day, 1500 miles. Took 3 days to get there! I was going home when I hooked it all the way. Never found any good Que there, haven't been back either... _________________ You can't hold a liberal responsible for their words because it's character assassination.

IMO...they aint got nuthin' that aint good Moon Puppy. They got BBQ slaw, and other stuff if ya wanna add to the QUE also.Hash too...very good hash. I just got hooked on that stew, and hush puppies, and pickles there myself. Check em out if you gotta go thru Union.I'd bet you'll like whatever ya eat there. I havent been there in a long time, but must be good....these folks have been goin' strong for many yearz. It's been my experience if a place aint good for what they sell, they dont make it long.I mean these folks have been there since I can remember almost. I asked a couple that I know that lives in Union, and I see at the lake alot(Lake Greenwood),and they said, yes, they are STILL there. _________________

I'm a huge fan of BBQ and just so we're on the same page, when we say BBQ around here, it is basically a pulled/chopped/sliced pork sandwich, normally made from hickory smoked pork shoulder. The meat is usually coated with sauce, then topped with a mayo based slaw.
For this kind of BBQ, ketchup/tomato or mustard based sauces are equally popular. Every BBQ joint usually has their own sauce recipe and there are so many varieties, it's kinda hard to choose. I actually prefer the mustard based (so I'll vote for that), but I really like both. Now if I'm grilling ribs, I'll use a sweet & tangy tomato based sauce.
Here's a classic, southern style, mustard based BBQ sandwich sauce recipe.
1/2 cup vinegar
1/2 cup beef or chicken broth
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup Dijon mustard
1/4 cup honey mustard or brown deli-style mustard
1/4 cup corn syrup (or to taste)
2 tablespoons molasses
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or to taste)
If you want to kick it up a notch, add in some finely chopped Jalapeno.
Cover in a sauce pan and bring to a boil, reduce and simmer to desired thickness (around 10 minutes)
One of the better BBQ restaurants in the upstate is: Henry's Smokehouse. There's a few of 'em around. One on Wade Hampton Blvd, one on Woorduff road and one in Simpsonville. They have Ketchup and Mustard sauces.
There are plenty of other good ones around too. Even small places that cater to the lunch crowd can be good as well. I like Charlies on Pelham. Nice hickory smoke flavor and large portions. _________________

There's a place called PigOut on the corner of John Dodd road and Newcut Road in Spartanburg that I like alot. It features a ketchup based sauce in both mild and hot. I prefer the hot.
I like a sandwich sometimes but I normally get it served on a plate with baked beans and slaw.
There is also a place in Chimneyrock NC where the wife and I eat everytime we pass through that area. I can't think of the name but it's right up from the entrance to Chimneyrock Park on the left. It's been washed away by flood and I think recently burned down but has been rebuilt I've been told. Excellant bbq.
