Just testing anyway.

getting the new scripts to show up in Gimp Script-fu!

Hello to all of you professionals!
I am so new here, having trouble getting my downloaded scripts to show up in the script-fu menu. I downloaded them applied them to the appropriate folders, ie. patterns and script but cannot find them when I pull up the xtrs/script-fu menu. What did I do wrong. So far I have not been able to do anything with this Gimp and I am totally ready to cry Embarassed Embarassed Shocked I don't even have a sig don't know who to create one. Could you please help I so want to make glittery text that is why I downloaded this thing in the first place... I have the new Gimp 2.4 version so I don't have the script-fu on my image screen like you guys do and some of the tuts are very hard to follow cause I don't know where to find stuff like saving the new pattern layers to my patterns, have not figured out how to do that. Any help would be a blessing to this frazzled newcomer!!! Thanks

Well, tojo16, you probably need to shut down GIMP and restart it or those new scripts and patterns won't show up in Gimp.

I understand your frustration. I've shed lotsa tears in GIMP and PSP. Graphics rendering softwares are really hard to learn.

Here is where you look for the scripts after you have restarted GIMP.

Come back with any other questions or concerns you may have about GIMP. Someone in here can probably steer you in the right direction.

Hello Tojo16,

You said you downloaded the script. Did you unzip it too, before you put it in your Gimp2.4 scripts folder? Did you find that folder ok?

Yes, as Dust said, check to ensure you have the individual pattern files (.pat) in the patterns' folder and the script (.scm) in the scripts' folder.

Here are the locations of those folders in Windows and Linux.

I will try again, cause I put the unzipped files into the script folder unzipped them and then moved the patterns into patterns maybe that is where I went wrong. O also appreciate the pictures you just don't know how much they help the helpless like me!!! Oh I will be back sort of like that annoying family memeber you just can't get rid of during the holidays!!!!

I'm glad the information was helpful.

Please keep coming back and asking questions. You know, every time you ask a question it helps other users too and may teach us some things we didn't know.

Asking and telling goes both ways. If one person doesn't know the answer to your question another probably will so we all get to learn.

I'm glad to see you back.

Hey guys, okay I closed Gimp and reopened it and still the scripts were not there. So I messed around and found out that I had to open Gimp and go into preferences and click on the folders that I wish to add to and then click on the white paper and then click on the folder in the right corner which opens up the window with the already installed scripts from there I had to open the installed folders and then open the gimp folder and click on the new folder I want installed and hit okay then close gimp and reopen it and lo and behold they finally appreared! Man it took awhile but I got them to show up yea for me!! I just want to know how to get rid of the background that surrounds the text. I made a glittery text yea but don't know how to get rid of the background attached to it any suggestions or links I can look at for help?? I don't think I did it right but will keep plugging away. Also how do you save the layers to the clipboard so that I can apply them to my text? Just haven't figured that out, when I make my pattern into an image I change it to rgb and get the 3 layers but don't know how to copy them to the clipboard so that I can apply them to my text and links that will help with that? Thanks in advance, you guys have saved a crying soul. Snicker Puppy Lick You Rock Thank You Spin

OK, if there's kind of a white-colored area surrounding the text, that's the stuff that fills the antialiased pixels. That will not show on a white background. If you want to display it on a different colored background than white, you need to change the background color in the bling text dialog that comes up.

In here, if you want to display it so it doesn't show a white background, I use color # F8F7EA ... it's kind of between the light and dark cream colors in here.

This is what you see in your image window.

This is how it looks when you post it.

I don't understand what you are saying about applying the layers to your text. If you checked the animate box in the dialog you should have had 3 layers.

Browse to the folder where you want to save your image. Name the image and put .gif at the end of the name you gave it and click Save. Check Save as Animation.

In the next box that comes up, click OK for the default settings which will work.

Your picture is wherever you decided to save it.

Hey "O", "GW" and "Dustwun" thanks so much for all of your help. OMG! I tried one of the scripts and it actually worked I created something. I finally figured out the other tut, I ended up having to copy the layers individually and then send them to the clipboard and from there I applied them to each of the three layers of text. Came out okay but with the first couple of tries all I could get was blinking not glittery effect. It was way more involved than using your secret weapons, Thanks GW so much for your scripting finesse!! Had it not been for you guys this is what I would be doing to this old puter This is what i have so far and hopefully with practice I will get some cool stuff like you guys (maybe in a couple of years) Okay if I ever figure out how to put the finished product up here you guys can see my first efforts!! YOU GUYS are CHRISTMAS ANGELS

Laugh out loud I'm glad your puter is still intact, tojo.

To post a picture in here is relatively easy. GW has it all modded to make it easier on the users.

First, click the post reply button to open the area to enter your image on. (Quick reply will not work for this)

In there are a lot of buttons to click. The first button you want to click is the 5th one from the left in the bottom row of buttons (upload file) It's the one with the aqua-colored screens on 2 computers and a red wire running between them.

Browse to your image file, click the open button, then the Submit button. Wait for a while for the next screen to come up. You will see a path to your image on it. Copy that path, come back to the entry screen and click on the 6th from the left button (yellow bg with gray mountains), paste the path into the dialog that comes up and OK. Voila! the path to your picture is entered. Click the submit button and you should be able to see your picture.

Glad to hear that tojo16. Just follow O's instructions and check the animation option box in the bling script. Then simply save as a .gif. Check the "save as an animation" option and you're done.

When you check the animation box, the script will generate the layers needed for the animation, semi-flattened and ready to animate.
