Cheese Cloth in Your Crock Pot
Meats cooked in the crock pot tend to fall apart when you try to remove them and you end up with the meat in several pieces and chicken or turkey bones scattered around in the juice.
While shopping one day I noticed a package of cheese cloth and had a moment. I bought it and tried it.
Cut a piece of cheese cloth big enough to wrap your roast, chicken, turkey breast or what have you. Lay the meat in the middle of the cheese cloth and bring up the sides and ends of the cheese cloth and just lay them on the top of the meat and put the "package" into the crock pot.
When the meat is done, lift it out by taking hold of the cheese cloth ends & sides with rubber gloves on to protect your hands. Hold it over the crock to drain a bit then lay the whole works on your cutting board, platter, whatever.
Carefully open the cheese cloth and work it out from under the meat. DON'T THROW IT AWAY YET. Lay the used cheese cloth over a bowl, kettle or whatever you want to put the juice left in the crock into and pour the juice through the cheese cloth. It strains out chunks or what ever you want strained out of it. Use the strained juice for broth or gravy.
The cheese cloth is very inexpensive. I bought 4 square yards (1yd wide x 4yds long) for $1.79 and it will last a very long time.
I've used the "cheese cloth method" several times and it has worked very nicely for me. _________________
