Black Puma

I looked up miniature black panthers. They are really small. The black cat I saw raise up on it's back legs looked more like this tho

I found that pic under black pumas

I think you could be right GW Shocked

From what I understand, cougars/pumas are native to SC.

There have been some reports of black panthers in SC here.

Bear -vs- Puma

The Cougar vs Bear fight is cool, GW.

That is a cool vid. Bear sed come get some !!

Well....on further inspection of the big black cat....Ive been comparing pics. It's really not quite as big across the shoulders as the puma, but it's head is shaped more like one, than the panther.Tail looks the same either way. Wild life folks also told us if we found a paw print that was a good one,to put something like a big heavy cup or bowl over it,and they want to see it,and take pics, and see if they can determine just what it is,and about how big. I told them I could do that,but...... if they want to see this animal,up close and personal like,it's living over at my Dad's place across the drive from me. I told them to bring on a tranquilizer gun,or it may be big black cat dust out here. A paw print indeed. It's right over there!!!!!!!!!!!! It's living under Dad's place!!!!!!!!!!!! Rolling Eyes

Ive tried to get a good pic,but as I said,it's fast and I dont want to get too close unless it's down on the ground. See You

You see this close to you Siwren?

I've seen a BIG CAT down in Saluda back when I was driving all over the state running service calls. It was early EARLY AM and I got just a glimps of him.

Moon.... that big cat is across the driveway from me.Dad lives at the lake right now,but he has a place across the driveway from me.I suppose he may have to come home to live some day again, but it's no one over there right now.Black cat has took up residence under Dad's place, and comes out to sun himself in Dad's big flower bed. We gotta get him outta here. There are also SMALL children here.

If the wild life folk dont get here before me or my bro in law can get him,he's toast. We have now decided we cant live with that.Bro in law is about pissed. He said he was gonna go tomorrow to the feed and seed store, and get some kind of odorless poison they have, and bait him a nice big plate of tuna. He expected the wild life folk to be here today.they havent shown yet.

Couple of things, Have you called SCDNR about it yet? You might want to make sure that cats not protected if you do something on your own then they show up....oh man...

If you poison it, you want to be careful what you use (you may know more about this stuff than I) but I understand a poisoned animal can be really aggressive going down.

Funny, last time I talked to a DNR guy he said there were no big cats around here...

Yep! CAREFUL is the key word right now. I'd rather they come with a tranquilizer gun like they said. I know they want pics, and I'd get a good one that way.

Just walked the dog out in one spot in the yard. Was totally scared.

This just posted on a local news site for Greenwood.
Quote:
A resident in the Coronaca area of Greenwood County has wondered why some of his chickens kept mysteriously disappearing (with nothing left but a few feathers). While walking through the surrounding woods of him home, he noticed some large tracks that have since been identified as 'large cat' tracks. The resident is not certain if it is possibly a panther, but states that the indentions in the ground that can been seen are that of a heavy animal...heavier than that of a bobcat. GwdToday.com will keep you posted on this story as we receive the information.

Coronaca {Corn-A-kah} is just 3 miles from Lake Greenwood on Hwy 72/221.

Wonder if DNR STILL say there are no big cats around. I know a guy on Lake Greenwood who has a pet Cougar who is a rescue animal but it's highly unlikely she got out of her cage, or even wanted to. I think I would have heard about by now.

WOW! What a print. Ed said he looked for prints, but didnt see any. I saw the CAT late last night over there in the grass. He stopped and just stood there looking at me. Most I could see was like a big shadow, and glowing gold eyes. I had to take my lil dog out on his leash. I was prepared tho. We got back in ok.

Wild life folk still havent shown. Gaah!! Why they say they coming and dont??

Moon....the lake I speak of where my Dad stays right now IS lake Greenwood. Maybe S.C. has more CATS than I thought.

I figured it was Lake Greenwood. Yes SC has more Cats than some are willing to admit. A fellow i worked with lives in Blackville down towards Denmark, Bamburg area told me they see them all the time out hunting around those swamps. But like here DNR said they are there. I don't know why the world they do that. Same thing with Coyotes, for the longest time they said they were not here till it got to a point they couldn't deny it anymore because people were hitting them going down the road!

Be careful Sirwen, dem Cats are sneaky...Did your little dog react at all?

UPDATE:

Yeah, moon,my dog kept wanting to go over to Dad's,thus his leash.

We havent seen the cat in over a week now. UNTILL....Dalton shot it. It was a miniture panther. Still a big cat! Ed told him to get rid of it. He buried it,while I was getting my camera ready. He didnt know I wanted a picture, and he was sooooooooo proud of himself.(And has not stopped talking about it yet.)

Dont mean there arent others tho,and that was the meanest, biggest cat Ive ever seen up close in real life. Shocked

Glad everyone is safe. Other than the cat....I might suggest more and larger dogs. I hear rottweilers are good with kids and predators of all types! Besides, they are cute when little...
