Anyone here use FREE Audacity for editing - creating - recording - saving sound?
MP3 - WAV - Ogg Vorbis.
Has special dedicated builds for various flavors of Linux.
Great for short INTERNET "sound clips" as MP3 for "streaming audio" if use Quality of 22050Hz at 64kbps.
Also does CD Quality at 44100Hz at 256kbps (Wave wav) but does Not do the burn to CDA
Does not have every option of the High-Price apps, but it is free.
Regards

I have been using Audacity for two years now and I love it. I actually have three other paid recording studio software but I always end up back at the free audacity. I recorded everything on Keith Allison Music using this software. I think it is excellent and FREE.
I save everything as a wav file on there so I can burn to CD. You can download most of the effects on their site but I would suggest using another program to equalize with as it creates some nasty harmonic distortion.

I use it all the time in FC5. It's great for quick sound editing and converting. I understand that it can also be used as a 16 track recording device.
I have an Echo Layla System that allows recoding of 8 simultaneous tracks, while playing back an unlimited number of tracks (based on computer power). I have been using Adobe Audition under W2K and although it's very powerful, it can be a bit buggy.
I haven't tested the the Layla under Linux yet, but I understand it's supported. Hopefully, there's some really great multi-track sound editors out there with all the bells and whistles. _________________

MP, you're correct again. Currently only use Windoz. The Linux comment was just an "eye-catcher" note.
But guess what my next experiment in confusers will be.
