SG, I have 4 pci slots. The top one has my vid card, the next 2 were empty and the 4th one has usb card (I think ... there are usb plugs in it). I put the sb card in the one next to the vid card.
I've restored Win, checked in bios to make sure the integrated sound was off, it is, now I'm going to install the sb software.
This is coming from my laptop. Wish me luck!
Hopefully you restore will work, but if not, I would move the USB card to an empty slot and put the SB where the USB was. After restarting to into Device Manager and any conflicts of resources will show up there as "bang" (explanation point) in a yellow background. Your video and SB are both likely trying to obtain a DMA channel, and a conflict there might be the cause of your problems.

I'm not gonna mess with it anymore. It was detected the first installation and after the system restore, it wasn't detected even though I put it back in the same slot. I truly think it's damaged. I had the parity problem with it right from the get go. _________________

Sorry to hear you had issues. You should have tried putting in back in the original slot before doing any kind of system restore. I only use system restore as a last resort due to the fact it is a great way to really confuse Windows and leave things hanging out there with no way to remove them, but manually..
Anyway, you can get a real SB Live 5.1 (EMU10K1X audio processor) from Amazon for $25.00 _________________

You should be much happier with that one. Sometimes the older hardware is much better than the new stuff. They remove certain hardware components and emulate them is software, which usually means much more overhead and lots more bugs. Older hardware modems were superior to the software modems we have nowadays. Looks like sound cards are moving in that direction now. _________________
