ActiveX woes

3 uninstalls of FF 1.0.7 and 3 reinstalls later ... Gaah!!

I don't know what caused the first crash but after that every time I tried to post a message in here, FF crashed.

I saved my plugins folder, and deleted the Firefox programs folder after each uninstall. But, after uninstalling, ActiveX was no longer working so I went to the first place where they had it for 1.0.4 and that was the one I had been using. It wouldn't install completely and I couldn't restart FF even after shutting off my machine as it kept saying the install program was running. Nothing in Task Manager.

That was when I uninstalled it the second time.

I found this link: ActiveX and followed the instructions for installing. Same problem as before; couldn't start FF as the install program was running. I deleted the files the article said to delete to uninstall the component. Tried to restart FF again and same message.
Gaah!!

Uninstalled it a 3rd time, deleted the programs FF folder. And reinstalled. Here I am, no ActiveX controls so any and sundry audio files run at will.

I've resorted to my laptop. I've fought too long. Maybe after a good night's sleep I'll be able to work with it better.

Sorry, slider. I read right over the "os" in your message. WinXP

You may be able to do a restore to a date before you installed the spyware app. That is if you have restore activated.

I restored to yesterday before I installed FF 1.0.7, but never thought of restoring before I got the TMAS. It does do a restore point every day. I'll go see the date that my daughter sent me the email about it and restore before that.

Just looked. It was 9/22. I probably should go to 9/21

When you restore does your registry go back to that date? I am suspicious that there is stuff still in there from TMAS

it's actually an image of your system from that date hence it will revert to exactly that state that you restore to.

I'm going to give it a try. Probably should wait until tomorrow, but want to see what happens. I'll probably have to reinstall FF again. *groan*
