8-foot Python found in Washing Machine

Woman taking clothes out of washing machine finds 8-foot python mixed in with the blue jeans

GORHAM, Maine (AP) -- Mara Ranger will be a little paranoid doing laundry now. When she was removing clothes from the washing machine at her Maine farmhouse Wednesday, the clothes moved. She told WMTW-TV, "I jumped back" and saw a snake. She quickly shut the lid and called for help.

Maine Animal Damage Control operator Richard Burton reached into the machine and pulled and pulled - all 8 feet of a reticulated python.

Burton guesses the snake got into Ranger's washing machine through water pipes.

It sure looks bigger than the hose going into my washer ...

I just went and measured my hose with a measuring tape, it's ~23/4 inches around and that's the outside.

The snake looks about as big around as the guy's wrist. My wrist measures 53/4 inches and I'm sure that snake is bigger than my wrist.

It doesn't sound particularly feasible. The water lines should have screen filters on them.

The drain line doesn't and would be a bigger line, but it still doesn't make any sense. Plus, the pic looks like it is in a store, Why and how was someone washing their clothes in a store?

Lucy, you got some 'splainin' to do!

Roll on the floor I don't think she washed clothes at a store. It says it's a kennel store. Maybe the guy took it there to ID it.

Shocked What a snake! I would have hurt me and any people in MY way trying to get away from it. I run from baby black snakes. My niece picks them up and plays with them. Rolling Eyes

If they are on a septic system I can see it happening. Snake some how gets down into a drain line comes back out another drain line. Maybe the snake was inthe dirty cloths and she just didn't notice it when she was loading the washer?

Yeah, want to hear me scream like a girl? get a snake around me.

I suspect someone had these things as pets (can't understand that but) and maybe set them loose because they can't take care of them or didn't care. That Maine winter would surely have killed them though.

Whoa! Sounds like they got loose from somewhere and may be breeding there.

AFA Maine weather is concerned, they could hibernate or go into a nice warm basement in the winter.

Although pythons aren't poisonous, they do bite. It would be terrible if they got a pet or small child that couldn't get away. Shocked
